"Do you want me to stop this car?"
"There are children starving in China!"
"Don't make me come back there!"
Well, last night we indulged ourselves in this little gem:
"Do you want to go to bed with no supper?!"
That's right folks. We starved our child last night as a last ditch discipline idea. Max has been acting up with the attitude and the back talk. Last night, he was being quite the "charmer" at dinner and was sent to timeout. He proceeded to hit and scream at Lane on his way there. We were faced with a crossroads. Do we talk about what happened and give him yet another chance? Do we lay down the law?
Well, we chose (by we, I mean Lane) to lay down the law.
It was rather horrifying for the hormonal mama. Lane had to police me out of fear I would slip the prisoner some food! We heard cries, we heard whines, we heard moans, and lots of anger!
It was awful.
But you know... tonight's dinner was actually pleasant. Plus, Max reacted with quite a different attitude when he was disciplined... no yelling and no hitting.
And, our child did not starve. He woke up this morning, he apologized for hitting and yelling. He ate a big breakfast and we moved on with life. So, I guess while it was awful last night... it sorta worked.
At least till the next time.

Trying to see if this works. Mom
Great idea! I'm glad it worked. I've never been able to do the dinner thing. Mostly because I LOVE to eat and Lily doesn't get a chance to eat much all day long so she usually has 2 dinners and 1-2 snacks after school. You should be very proud of yourself and yay for Lane!
We however have successfully tried another cliche' - if Lily screams or talks nasty she gets soap in her mouth. It is the kitchen soap from bath and body works and apparently it burns (she just laughed when I put dish soap in her mouth). Sometimes just the question "do you need some soap in your mouth?" will calm her down now. Sometimes we will set the soap next to her while she is freaking out in time out and she does better. Sometimes I actually have to do it :-( but then she doesn't need it again for a couple months.
I hope you are doing well! - Kyla
